Luton Town Make It Seven New Signings This Summer

|

Late this afternoon, it was confirmed by the official site that the Hatters have added Jacob Butterfield to their ranks.

Butterfield, 29-years-of-age, arrives at Kenilworth Road as a free agent after his contract with Derby County was terminated by mutual agreement.

A midfielder, Butterfield has a wealth of experience in the Championship having made over 300 appearances.

However, whilst Graeme Jones, via the official Luton Town site enthused about his new signing, remarking;

“We’re delighted to have Jacob on board. He’s fantastic technically and tactically, and great on the ball. He’s always looking for the forward pass.

“One of the big things with all our signings so far this summer has been the experience they have at this level, and he’s got massive Championship experience. He’s got 300 games to his name and has been playing in the second tier for the past ten years.

“At 29 he’s at the peak of his career, so he’s another great addition to the squad.”

However we feel obliged to point out that Butterfield hasn’t made a single appearance for Derby County in the last two seasons.

Instead, Butterfield has spent time out on loan with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City.

Earlier in his career, the midfielder has spent time with Barnsley, Norwich City, Bolton Wanderers (loan), Middlesbrough (loan) and Huddersfield before joining Derby County for a fee of £5 million.

Speaking to the official Luton Town site about his move to Kenilworth Road, the player has commented;

“I’m really excited to get going. I think it’s a big season for the club, a really exciting time for the club and I’m delighted to be here.

“They are great lads. I settled in straight away. They are a welcoming bunch and I’ve been really impressed so far. The manager is good and the way he wants to play this year is really exciting. I feel good.”

Will Butterfield provide that bite in midfield we need?
