With our relegation, from the Premier League, as good as confirmed, I stumbled across an interesting statistic.
When it comes to the number of goals scored, the Hatters done exceedingly well joining a select group of clubs that have managed to score 50 or more goals in their first season in the top-flight of English football.
Looking at the listing, Luton Town join the following:
• Newcastle – 82 goals in 1993/1994
• Blackpool – 55 goals in 2011/2012
• Reading – 52 goals in 2006/2007
• Luton Town – 50 goals in 2023/2024
And when it comes to goals conceded, perhaps the reason for our demise can be seen with it being a fact that only three teams have conceded more goals than the Hatters in their first season in the Premier League:
• Luton Town – 81 goals in 2023/2024
• Barnsley – 82 goals in 1997/1998
• Burnley – 82 goals in 2009/2010
• Swindon Town – 100 goals in 1993/1994
With one game remaining those figures could change, unless we play out a 0-0 draw with Fulham, this coming weekend.
I guess nobody can say our games hae not been entertaining!
