Luton Town – If Only Circumstances Had Been Different

|

It’s Thursday morning, some two days after the Hatters earned a huge point, away from home, at top of the table Leeds United and I’ve still got a smile on my face.

My only regret from what was a memorable night was that the game was played behind-closed-doors.

Although Elland Road would have been filled with hordes of baying Yorkshiremen, I’m pretty sure that Luton would have taken, quite probably, their largest away following of the season, somewhere in the region of 5000 – 6000.

The atmosphere would have been electric and I’m pretty sure the travelling Luton army would have gone ballistic when Harry Cornick scored what I believe is the best goal we’ve scored this season.

The goal was poetry in motion with Ryan Tunnicliffe producing a sublime pass for Cornick to not only hold off the challenge of Ben White but then proceed to produce a fantastic finish.

To put into context just how hard it is for an away team to score at Elland Road perhaps we should point out that Leeds United have conceded just 13 goals, at home, in the Championship and hadn’t conceded in any of their last four games.

After the game, as reported by Luton Today, Harry spoke about his glorious goal and the fact there were no Hatters fans there to witness it in the flesh, remarking:

“It’s not the 40,000 crowd, it’s the 5,000, 6,000 Luton fans that would have been here.

“It’s annoying that they weren’t here for me to celebrate in front of.

“But hopefully they were behind the screens of the TV, celebrating like that.”

Indeed, we were Harry, I’m sure my whoop of delight was heard all the way down the street.
