Could the Hatters be set to lose another valued member of their first team squad?

A lot of column inches are being written inferring that Andros Townsend could be leaving Kenilworth Road, before the start of the 2024/2025 season.

One source that has covered the inference is The 72, who are suggesting Andros could be on his way to the Turkish club, Alanyaspor.

Townsend joined the Hatters last summer, as a free agent, after a proposed move to Burnley collapsed.

Last season, with Luton Town competing in the top-flight of English football, Andros made 27 league appearances, many of those being as a substitute, scoring on just the 1 occasion.

Although not a first team regular, at 33-years-of-age, his experience served the Hatters well and there is no doubt that his presence would benefit us enormously this coming season.

But will the interest in Andros see him leave?

It is a hard question to answer, his experience could be invaluable next season, even if he isn’t a regular starter, but does the player fancy one last sojourn, in the Turkish sun?

One influencing factor could be his blossoming career as a TV pundit.

In the recent Euro 2024, his contributions were widely received as being among the best.

If he decides to move to Turkey, could that be an avenue that closes?

But what are your views regarding his future, please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

I suppose we will get a few grand for him🤷‍♂️ there’s a chance we could lose a few more before season starts but what’s annoying me is the so called valuations Luton are putting in players Chong 10M mengi 12 – 15M common please!! think it shows how naive we are if these are true if these bigger teams want our players make them pay big money for them !!! At least put price tags on them that will make it clear we not messing around

  • Alan says:

We are in a different position now…

Agree Steve , it really annoys me too , we seem to be a charity when it comes to selling players , Rob saying we don’t need to sell, which would indicate that we can play hard ball and sell only for silly money , so selling Chong for 10 mill would be peanuts , but it wouldn’t surprise even though we have the parachute money.Im very dissapppointed with the transfer window so far , yes the main thing is we keep the same squad together , but surely we should be spending a bit of money , we need a couple more quality players on top of what we have , knowing us we’ll bring in a couple of young development players and never hear of them again , it’s very like the January window we had last season so far .Anyway we’ll have to trust Gary and Co to sort it out I hope

    • Steve says:

Agreed this window is disappointing to say the least 🤷‍♂️ we should have money to spend so let’s see if this window gets better or worse

  • BigAl says:

The Big Boys are still sorting out their squads. Maybe we’re waiting for the dust to settle and then pick up a few Chongs and Mendis who would otherwise be sitting on the bench in the Prem. I’ve seen Palace’s Rak-Sakyi mentioned a few times on the transfer rumour websites (although it looks like Southampton are interested). But there are plenty of other talented lads at Prem clubs just itching to get regular game time.

  • Alan says:

I will say again, when did the club state 10 mil for chong??? Plus as had already been said the club will not pay silly money for anyone. Try & remember the mess we were in not so long ago….

    • Steve says:

As you stated “ we are in a different position now” so let’s spend some money doesn’t have to be stupid money on half decent players not always relying on youngsters that no one’s heard of 🤷‍♂️ we need a mix of experience and raw talent

  • jimbo says:

i think people are forgetting what a great squad we already have. its so exciting to see some of our youngsters knocking on the first team door at last. have some trust in the management to do there best.COYH.

    • Steve says:

Don’t think anyone is disputing that we already have a good squad problem being it is only a good squad not stand out so if we sell some of our better players what position are we in ? that’s where continually signing youngsters won’t help 🤷‍♂️ we need to sign experience as well like I said before doesn’t have to be stupid money but we need to buy just my opinion

  • Alan says:

JJ could be the one to break through this season. If we think about it Edwards came in when we were chasing promotion, so didn’t chance youngsters, then obviously didn’t feel throwing them into the fire of the prem was the thing to. So maybe this season there could be more a chance for some. Also the debate about spending just consider this : Barkley, Townsend, Mengi cost 0 impact massive. Giles cost 5 mil impact 0….just a thought…

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, don’t want to be picky but nobody comes free a free transfer isn’t free and the players you mentioned all cost plenty in wages signing on fees an agents fees lol 😆

  • Alan says:

I’m not that daft chris. I meant it metaphorically. Some people wouldn’t realise that…..

  • Chris winter says:

Morning all looking forward to today’s game is filling me with trepidation. Will we give pieters an outing in defence or the youngsters what will the midfield be as it looks like being very light Chong pelly and Clark and I feel not up to a job as a unit. That’s my opinion anyway. Time is marching on an no time for any new ins to integrate with the team before game one.

  • Chris winter says:

16 mins gone and mehngi has had to be replaced by Holmes . Things can’t get any worse or can they.

  • Chris winter says:

Vigo take the lead swiburg scored

  • Chris winter says:

    Luton have equelised

  • Chris winter says:

    Celtic score again duran

  • Chris winter says:

After that we can only finish mid table we need experienced players in and very soon.looks like more injuries to contend with.

  • Alan says:

Surely you’ve heard of things going on this week chris

  • Chris winter says:

Yes Alan but after that I can’t see us getting incoming players ready and integrated by burnley.i don’t want another gj situation of players thrown in before ready and also defensive injury and midfield is poor at the moment so I’m sorry but I see us struggling to start the season and we can’t afford that if I’m proved wrong I’ll hold my hand up maybe if we can get get something in the opening two months of the season ok but I don’t think we should have been in this situation never mind how much or little we spend it’s bodies we need right now I know how hard it’s been but it’s getting desperate now.

  • Chris winter says:

Ok Alan time we let people know the truth. I thought after last season people would be clamering to join us as we offered the chance to get back up. In truth they are just through there agents just asking for to much an clubs overpricing players. Not the clubs fault but made it impossible to requite the players we want.this is what happens with a bit of success

  • Alan says:

Exactly, I know of 2 players who had have talks with us, where the agents have caused them to collapse. Just quick insight I’ve been working 2 days week for the past month but I’ve been asked on everyday this week for tomorrow…..all hands and all that….

    • Chris winter says:

Hope mehngi is not too bad then.and those players were the two I said about a couple of weeks ago agents eh who’d have em.
