Luton Town – Deadball Specialist Dilemma Looms Large On The Horizon

This Friday evening, Luton Town will welcome West Bromwich Albion to Kenilworth Road.

Following the events of Saturday, the gaffer, courtesy of suspensions, will be forced to make changes to his starting XI.

After receiving a red-card, Tom Holmes will not be available for selection and neither will Alfie Doughty who collected his 5th yellow card of the season thereby picking up a one-game ban.

The yellow card Doughty was shown was a strange one.

From what I can make out Alfie was shown a yellow card for taking a free-kick too quickly.

Now whether the referee had warned him about committing such a heinious offence when the free-kick was awarded, I’m not party to.

But Doughty’s absence will hit the Hatters hard especially when it comes to free-kicks and corners.

The defender / wing-back seems to have had a monopoly, recently, when it comes to dead-ball delivery from out wide and it remains to be seen who will take on, against West Bromwich Albion, the challenge.

Although some might say that a change could benefit Luton Town with Doughty’s deliveries not quite hitting the mark this season.

I’m not sure who will pick up this aspect of the Hatters game, but I’m guessing we’ll find out as soon as we get a free-kick in a dangerous situation, out wide.

My money is on Victor Moses but who do you reckon it will be?

Like you MH, my money is on Moses, but with RE’s penchant for playing so many players out of position maybe it will be Kaminski 🙂

Completely agree mh, so far this season he’s been our most productive player when able to cross or pass a ball.My biggest fear is the dead ball coach will enforce his usual method shite or will he take note of a champions League winner and premier winner who has more talent in his toes than the coach has in his whole body. Sadly I believe we know how it will go and who will win 😔😔😔 with this management team

My bigger concern is who is going to be playing at the back. Unless any of the 4 injured CB’s makes a miraculous recovery, we are going to be very light in the middle. I’m less concerned about left wing back as we could potentially use Chong there.

Assuming Hashioke plays which given the suspensions is more than likely I think he will take the set pieces. I was impressed with more than one of his crosses against Sunderland and Japanese in the past have always had very good techincal ability.

krauss or hashioka to take corners and free kicks. will be interesting to see someone else. be glad when bell is back in team.COYH.

Has to be Moses. He took a couple at Plymouth, from what i remember of that disappointing night, and certainly showed he’s still got it

  • Geoff says:

As we are short of players and playing rubbish why not play Chong at left wing back, Brown at right wing back. Give Taylor a chance and start up front with Adebyo and play Morris just behind the front two. We can’t be any worse than what we have been playing
