Luton Town Could Do Worse Than Make An Approach To A Familiar Figure

As the 2019 / 2020 EFL season continues its enforced suspension, courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic, we still await confirmation of when it may resume.

Meanwhile, with no fixtures to contemplate, the big topic of discussion doing the rounds among the Kenilworth Road faithful relates to who will replace Graeme Jones at the managerial helm.

Previously, here at Vital Luton Town, we’ve covered the possibility of Nathan Jones returning – is-nathan-jones-really-the-perfect-choice-for-a-return-to-the-luton-managerial-hot-seat – being one of the many articles we’ve published.

But since I temporarily left the editorial chair to resume the permanent job (before returning today) several of those who frequent this site have mentioned that there could be a surprise return, to Kenilworth Road, for Alan Sheehan.

Sheehan, who started the 2019 / 2020 season as the club captain, fell out of favour with Graeme Jones and his backroom team and was subsequently shipped out of the club, as a free-agent, joining Lincoln City until the end of the current season.

With Mick Harford acting as a liaison until a new manager is appointed, the consensus from those who have contacted this site is that Sheehan would make a perfect foil for Harford and could be a surprise contender for a role in any future set-up.

But what are your feelings on the above subject matter?

Morning all, sheehan & big mick could easily see out this season in the same manner they did last season. Give it to those 2 & see where we end up…there will be a very happy squad of players wanting to play 100% for those two.

Hi Alan an mh, since we last spoke on this subject, I’m hearing Al has not completed his f. A. Coaching badges an tentative calls have been made to find a solution. An maybe some sort of appointment could follow also I see Chris Coleman name being bandied about as a possible new manager. Can’t say that he would inspire me personally. I would rather go with Alan on this.

Should the season recommence which personally i can’t see happening i’m sure Mick would help the club out again and possibly Alan could assist in some capacity but neither are realistic long term appointments.

Chris Coleman is the most credible name to be linked with the job and would be a massive coup for the club. Vastly experienced manager at various levels, would no doubt have many contacts in the game and likes to play attractive football. Whether he would want the job and if we could afford is another another matter for when the club are actively looking to appoint and new managerial team which GS has stated we’re currently not.

    Tommy Wright anyone 🙁

l would love to see big mick and sheehan have a go at the job

I too would very much like to see Sheehan back at Luton in some capacity. I really admired him as a player – and a leader during his time here. However, I think that,at the present time, his lack of qualifications and experience preclude him being appointed manager outright. I trust that when the time comes The Board will make a sensible appointment – which absolutely rules out a return of a certain little Welshman. I certainly hope so, anyway. Keep Safe and Stay Well Everyone out there.

Would love to see Alan back at Town
    He is well respected.

The only great former player for Luton Town FC who has never left even after playing for the club and successfully managing abroad is Ricky Hill. With his knowledge and experience, he is without doubt the best man for the Luton managerial job. A much better choice all round.
