Luton Town Can Emulate Bradford City

The weekend is upon us and the excitement levels, relating to our trip to Stamford Bridge, to play Chelsea in a FA Cup 4th round tie, are rising.

Although the game will be played behind-closed-doors, as is the norm in these pandemic driven times, the BBC will be covering the tie live with it being broadcast on BBC1 on Sunday lunchtime.

I cannot help but think the BBC have picked the tie in the hope they get to broadcast live the giant killing of the round, hoping that Nathan Jones side can pile more misery on a Chelsea side, managed by Frank Lampard, that are on, by their standards, a poor run of form.

But can the Hatters rise to the occasion and do Chelsea have a history of being knocked out by lower-league sides in the FA Cup?

Well, the answer to both is YES!

In a one-off game there is always a chance a shock can be produced and the records show that back in the 2014 / 2015 season Chelsea, welcomed Bradford City to Stamford Bridge for a fourth-round tie.

That season Chelsea went on to win both the League Cup and the Premier League but were to be humbled by Bradford in the FA Cup, slipping to a 4-2 home defeat that guaranteed ‘The Bantams’ graced the back page of every newspaper the following morning.

Some 24 hours before the game, I just have this suspicion Luton Town can emulate Bradford City, how about you?
