Yesterday, Rob Edwards surprised us all with his team selection including Osho and Lokonga in his starting XI.
I say surprised us all because in his pre-match press conference he played his cards very close to his chest inferring that none of his injured players, apart from Mengi, would be available.
Now, I seem to recall that a few weeks ago the gaffer implied that he may, due to our ongoing relegation fight, have to take a risk or two to influence our fate.
It was always going to be a risk, even more so with each of our last five games being described as a cup final.
Sadly, with expectation levels high ahead of the game, Brentford proved to be the perfect party poopers, taking full advantage of what I would call our poorest performance of the season.
Despite the usual energetic support turning Kenilworth Road into a cacophony of noise, the Hatters just failed to get going, it was almost as if the efforts of recent weeks had sucked the energy levels out of the players.
Once Brentford had opened up a two-goal lead, it was always going to be a matter of how many they scored, indeed, it was, to me, a relief they only scored five!
Playing Osho and Lokonga just didn’t work, neither looked fully fit and as a consequence the teams performance suffered.
Ahead of the game, I suggested I thought the Hatters would need ten points from their remaining five games, I still feel that is the case, but now we need to prodce something of a miracle escape to win three and draw one of those last four games.
It’s not impossible but, in my honest opinion, improbable!
