The Hatters got back to winning ways, after two disappointing results, last night.

A 0-0 draw away to Lincoln, followed by a 3-0 home mauling by Swindon Town on Saturday, meant that Luton Town had to get a result against the side at the foot of the League Two table.

And that is exactly how it turned out!

The Hatters should have taken the lead as early as the 12th minute but Andrew Shinnie wasted a glorious chance, heading the ball wide from close range.

But Luton`s pressure paid dividends in the 35th minute when a ball into the box was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Ben Whitfield, giving his keeper no chance.

Port Vale responded to going behind well, Ben Whitfield almost made amends for his error but his volley was just over the bar, whilst a free-kick from Anthony de Freitas produced a good save from Marek Stech.

Five minutes into the second half and the game was over as a contest when Jack Stacey embarked on a sixty yard run before smashing the ball into the net.

Port Vale almost go a consolation goal when David Worrall`s long range effort drifted just wide of the target, but Luton, through Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu who saw the keeper parried by the Port Vale goalkeeper Sam Hornby.

As the game drifted towards a conclusion, Shinnie saw an effort hit the side-netting whilst Stech was again called upon to make flying saves from De Freitas and also Worrall.

The Hatters winning means that Port Vale have now lost six games on the trot.
