Today, in my younger days, was one of the most waited for in the football calendar.
Tonight, between 19:00 and 19:30, the draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup will take place.
I will be broadcast from Anfield, by the BBC, as we all eagerly wait to see who we are paired.
No doubt, millions will watch the draw take place, but it will, in my opinion, lack the magic of years gone by.
I used to love the era when it was broadcast only on the radio and groups of adolescent males used to huddle around a small transistor radio to see who got who.
But I’m not sure the magic of the FA Cup is as prevalent as it used to be, the growth of European football as seen the Premier League clubs treat the competition, for want of a better word, with disdain in the early rounds.
However, having said that I can guarantee you that I’ll be sat in front of the TV waiting anxiously to see who ball number 22 is paired with, is it too much to hope we get a home draw against ball number 40, April seems too long to wait to get revenge!
