Luton to sign Atieno?

Kenyan International striker Taiwo Atieno is reported to be about to return to Luton Town on a year contract.

Taiwo joined Luton on a short term deal at the end of last season more on trial than anything else, and he looked lively in a reserve fixture scoring a hat trick. However an Achilles injury put paid to a deal in the close season and it is reported he has been training with South African Premier League champions SuperSport United over the summer months.

He was negotiating a deal with them but it fell through at the last minute and he is now available as a free agent.

Boss Richard Money has made no attempt to hide the fact that he feels a big front man is an asset in this league and Atieno certainly fits that bill.

Rushden & Diamonds put in a late effort to tempt the player to join them but it believed that Luton are very close to signing him and he may feature in the squad to face Grimsby at the weekend if a deal can be struck.

This follows Richard Money’s denial that Tom Craddock was going anywhere, and that even if he did we don’t need another striker and would not be signing one, and my prediction in the Craddock article that that probably meant we would be signing one shortly.

Football is a funny old game!
