To ease the boredom before we start to fully concentrate on what looks like an intriguing Championship clash with Sheffield United, I thought I’d run another random article.
Today, in our ‘They Played for Both’ series, I thought I’d be all historic and select Portsmouth, one of the naval bases on the south coast.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t too hard to come up with an XI that had played for both and I’m sure that many of the names will be very familiar.
Indeed, I only had to select one name from a golden era of the past before coming up with the following starting XI:
Goalkeeper – Dean Kiely
Defender – Martin Cranie
Defender – Steve Foster
Defender – Kal Naismith
Defender – Richard Money
Midfielder – Cameron McGeehan
Midfielder – Ceri Hughes
Midfielder – Vince Hilaire
Forward – Ron Davies
Forward – Brian Lewis
Forward – Paul Walsh
Substitute – Matthew Taylor
But can you think of any other individuals that deserve a mention?
If so, simply drop their name into the comment facility beneath this article.

Good shout
Sonny Bradley., Courtney Pitt, Matt Pollock, Jason Rees, Adrian Whitbread and Roy Lunniss to name but a few. Memories of Brian Lewis too many to mention my favourite player of the 60s.
some good shouts there, Brian Lewis was one of my idols as a young lad
Jim Standen Allan Brown and Albert McCann
Bit before my time that trio 🙂
I wrote Albert McCann’s obituary back in 2014. Read it here https://portsmouth.vitalfootball.co.uk/albert-mccann-bend-it-like-albie/
a great read, thanks
I am told a copy of that article hangs in the McCann household, which makes me proud.
And so it should 🙂
