Luton – The Social Media Boycott

For those who enjoy a dabble on social media of any variant, this weekend could prove to be difficult.

It has been announcement that in a move to drive racism out of the game, all EFL clubs, including Luton Town, will boycott social media this weekend, with sites such as Twitter and Facebook being closed down.

The decision has come about because of players being subjected to online racial abuse by perpetrators who are obviously content to create heartache and mischief.

As a result, those who use social media to follow the Hatters and interact with fellow supporters airing their views, will be unable to do so.

Part of me can see why this decision has been made but another part of me remains angry at the decision.

Of course, I want an end to racism, but will the boycott serve its purpose?

I cannot see those who take joy out of posting racist comments disappearing, the only way to eliminate these comments is for those who run the various social media sites to pursue, through the courts, those who post them.

Meanwhile, the rest of us will be deprived of our right to have a sensible, adult discussion.

Now I know you may not share the same views as me, therefore, please feel free to have your say on the forthcoming social media boycott in the comment facility beneath this article.

But, please be assured, Vital Luton Town will still be in operation enabling you to have your say on the events that occur this weekend.
