Luton – The Matty Pearson File

This afternoon, when the teams emerge at Kenilworth Road, I am expecting one Matty Pearson to be in the Huddersfield starting XI.

Those of you who are regular visitors to this site will know that Pearson was awarded a spot in our recent article – luton-they-played-for-both-huddersfield – although I have to admit it wasn’t hard to include Pearson due to the limited numbers of players, I could trace that have played for both sides.

But, with Pearson having departed Kenilworth Road, in the summer, to return to his native Yorkshire, I thought it would be a good moment to pay homage to a player who was part of our recent past.

Matthew Joe Pearson was born on 03-August-1993, in Keighley, England.

His early career saw him on the books of Blackburn Rovers and Lincoln City (on loan), without making any league appearances.

Next up on his list of destinations, in 2012, was Rochdale for whom he made 9 league appearances.

A loan move, in 2013, to FC Halifax Town, saw Pearson make a 26 league appearances before, in 2015, he moved to Accrington Stanley, for whom he made 89 league appearances and scored 11 goals.

In 2017, Pearson was on the move again, this time to Barnsley, where he made 17 league appearances without troubling the scorers.

On 26 June 2018, Pearson joined Luton Town on a three-year deal with, as seems the norm now, the fee remaining undisclosed.

While on the books at Kenilworth Road, Pearson notched up 128 league appearances scoring on 10 occasions.

But with his contract expiring, the consistent defender was tempted by a return to Yorkshire and signed for Huddersfield Town, on a free transfer, something, here at Vital Luton Town, we reported on back in the summer – and-another-leaves-kenilworth-road.

Since joining Huddersfield, Pearson has settled in quickly and in 9 league appearances has already scored 3 goals.

I am sure that Matty Pearson will be given the decent reception he is due this afternoon, but I have got my fingers crossed that he does not join the ever-growing list of players that score against their previous clubs.
