Luton Town fans awoke, on New Years Day, to the news that Nathan Jones has put pen-to-paper on a new, lengthy, deal with the club.

The news, as our article reported – luton-fans-overjoyed-about-latest-announcement – saw the news greeted with excitement by the Hatters support, indeed, among the social media outpourings there were none criticising the deal.

Many saw the news as a kind of confirmation that Nathan is part of the long-term plan that will not only see us play at our new home, Power Court, but also in the Premier League, as the posts below illustrate:

If that is the case, then we certainly have a lot to look forward to, but it isn’t going to be an easy journey.

Yesterday, with Luton’s Championship fixture postponed, I parked my backside on my favourite comfy chair and proceeded to watch Sky Sports Soccer Sunday.

The first game, between Brentford and Aston Villa, was a bit of a slog to get through, although it was, in parts, peppered with some decent action.

In fact, I thought, given a few improvements, the Hatters could, on their day, live with either side.

But then the main course was served, Chelsea v Liverpool.

What a game that was!

A game packed with energy, fast-paced football, exquisite moves, some fantastic goals, and a game where you dare not take your eyes away from the screen.

I would, like some other pundits, go as far as to say it was the best game of football, I’d seen this season.

Bring brutally honest, I had to admit that there was no way the Hatters, even with some improvements, would have lived with either of those sides.

But mulling over the events of the day later, I concluded that if Luton were, in five years, be in the Premier League, we would be competing in a band of clubs aside from the previously mentioned Chelsea and Liverpool and, of course, Manchester City.

I’m not ashamed to admit that we’d be scrambling for survival, just as most promoted clubs do, but the bonus would be that the foundations, namely Power Court, will have been laid, the financial aspects of the club will be on a sounder footing and if we can survive that first season back in the topflight, we’d have further stability to build on.

Five years may be a long time, but there is still a long way to go in what could be a journey of a lifetime, bring it on I say!
