Luton – That Same Old Chestnut

Last night, I had high hopes that the Hatters would take all three points in their Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers.

But it wasn’t to be!

The Hatters, in my opinion, played well enough but failed to take the chances that came their way.

Instead, we were left to rue two moments of misfortune.

The first came when, from our own corner, we were beaten all-ends up on the break with Wilcock lobbing Sluga as the game swept from end to end and then Austin headed home from a dead-ball situation which, I believe, should have been awarded our way.

But the XI on the pitch never gave up, sadly it was one of those nights when the chances created were not taken.

Delving onto social media, the posts below sum up how the night went:

and

And

But whilst I was happy with the performance, apart from the lack of goals and the result, others were not:

Unfortunately, playing on a Friday and losing does have an adverse effect, today we’ll all be looking at the other results and seeing how much further we’ll slip down the table, remember we could have climbed to 6th with a win last night.

But I’ll finish this piece with a post from a Queens Park Rangers fan who left the following for Luton supporters:

Ah!

That old chestnut, isn’t that something we talked about on many an occasion last summer?

COYH’s

Nottingham Forest v Luton Town?

Forest to Win!

Forest to Win!

Luton to Win!

Luton to Win!

A Draw!

A Draw!

Morning mh, for me the indispline shown by some players led to the second goal as they lost focus. Yes the free kick was given the wrong way. But came from recycled ball and a poor header across goal by our defender straight to Austin. The first by sluga leaving his line. I was a great believer of lansbury but since he’s been here his poor discipline along what he has shown mean I feel he needs to become a late sub not a starter. Both sides ability to pass the ball was woeful. Not for me a good game.

Lansbury does seem to pick up a yellow every time he plays but he’s always capable of that killer pass, QPR didn’t impress me though, I thought they would be better!

Hi MH &Chris, I agree with your comments. Some other people’s comments are just normal blinkered in my opinion. Unfortunately as I now work for the club I have to be careful what I say. Hard to be critical on people I see 2/3 times a week…..overall thought we were on par with them….they took their chances we didn’t. ..although didn’t think we had any really clear cut ones & the ball didn’t run for us in the box….hey ho bring on Tuesday….

Morning MH. Another disappointing night of live football by LTFC. Sluga forgot the golden rule of goalkeeping you only go when you are certain of getting the ball. OK he got his second decision right but his first may well of cost us the game. Pilkington has got some work to do in this respect Our defence still seems to be marking space rather than the man. giving the QPR best header of the ball a free go.

As for the midfield if Pelly Ruddock is our best attacking midfielder we have real problems his lack of pace and the number of times he blasts the ball high and wide is of great concern. We also need the midfield to be capable of scoring goals from outside of the box in order to support the strikers who cannot be expected to score every week.
Cohen and Hart need to concentrate on getting players not leaning back when striking balls but being on target and at least working the goalkeeper. Landsbury is a risk as yellow cards follow him everywhere he should spend more time on his tackling/ positioning and less time bending the referees’ ears.

Lets hope chances become goals in our next game.

get ruddock out of this team, thats my blinkered opinion, and many others.he sucks energy out of the team.everybody is entitled to there own blinkered opinion,my opinion is based on performance,if anybody thinks that is blinkered, what about calling it the truth.COYH.

This is a first, I agree with Nathan Jones!! that we don’t have enough quality. Back to normality I’ve never thought Ruddock was good enough but Jones does and he picks the team not me. So he’ll be first on the team sheet for the Forest game and we’ll get beat but only a lack of quality will let us down again. Excuse the cynicism but I’ve heard it all before
