There’s no doubting that the trip to Elland Road, to take on the Championship leaders Leeds United, was always going to be a tough task.

The fixture was, most definitely, the hardest of the first three games the Hatters have had to play since the resumption of the pandemic hit 2019 / 2020 season.

But Nathan Jones inspired the side to produce just the kind of performance needed to ensure our unbeaten run continued with the Hatters grinding out a much-appreciated draw.

Okay, the Hatters may have, at times, rode their luck defensively but the spirit shown by everyone who pulled on a Luton shirt was admirable.

Against the side who everyone expects to win the Championship, the Hatters even had the temerity to open the scoring with what could, quite possibly, be a contender for our goal of the season with Harry Cornick providing the most sublime of finishes.

Sadly, Leeds United were to equalise shortly after but Luton’s defensive resilience in holding on to a point could prove crucial when it comes to determining whether they’ll remain a Championship side come to the end of the season.

The result, courtesy of Barnsley winning at home, saw the Hatters drop to the bottom of the table, but it is far from being all doom and gloom.

The Hatters now have consecutive home games, against Reading and Barnsley, followed by an away trip to take on Huddersfield.

Barnsley are in the same predicament as Luton, fighting relegation, while Reading are fast slipping down the table.

As for Huddersfield, they’re in the relegation places and must fear dropping down another division after being a Premier League team not so long ago.

If the Hatters can take seven points from those three games, I’ve no doubt we’ll have climbed out of the relegation zone and then our future, wit three games to go, will really be in our own hands.

What a brilliant result at Leeds…. I think the prodical son could turn into our messiah & gain the freedom of Luton by pulling off what looked like mission impossible a few weeks ago. This team is now fighting for its championship survival & breathed new hopes & dreams into Lutons survival bid. I thought when NJ came in we had a 50 per cent chance but now feel this has risen up to 65. If indeed as you say MH, we collect 7 pts from the next 9 then feel that we could be looking forward to retaining our status within the 2nd tier of English football & a brighter future with the men in orange.
