Luton’s third signing of the close season was completed today, when ex-Ipswich Town midfielder Darren Currie signed a two year deal.

32 year old Currie joined pre-season training with his new colleagues immediately this morning.

Currie made his name at Barnet, before moving on to Wycombe and Brighton.

He impressed at Brighton in only 23 appearances, which was enough for watching scouts to be interested and Joe Royle came in with a bid of £250k to sign the playmaker for Ipswich Town.

In 88 appearances for Ipswich Currie netted 9 goals and made plenty more, but he was made available by Ipswich in January.

In February, Currie had three friendly games with Los Angles Galaxy before returning to sign on loan for Derby County.

Luton boss Kevin Blackwell commented to the club’s official website:

‘Darren is an old head whose job will be to help the nurture our young lads through.

‘We had a young squad who lacked experience in certain areas and at certain times in games last year and Darren will provide us with some extra strength in midfield.’

Blackwell is thought to be close to agreeing a deal with Paul Peschsolido, and is waiting for a decision from Marvin Elliott of Millwall, who has been offered terms by Luton.
