Luton have today signed Watford’s former QPR defender Clarke Carlisle on a one month loan deal.

Although he has not featured in Boothroyd’s team in the Premiership, he is a proven performer at Championship level and played a central role in teh Hornets’ promotion season.

He began his career at Blackpool, before moving to QPR, where he won England U21 honours and was inspirational in QPR’s promotion season to the Championship.

After a year with Leeds United he signed for Watford.

I hope that the Town faithful will look beyond the fact that he has played for the two teams which we like the least and see this as a very good signing for Luton.

‘Watford reject’ or not, Carlisle is a winner and could prove to be the difference between staying up and going down, and if he is available in the summer, I would like to see him signed permanently, especially if Marcus Heikkinen decides to leave.

With Chris Coyne returning to full training, our defence problems should be reduced very soon, although Coyne will not be match fit for a couple of weeks yet.
