Luton Reserves, fielding a strong team, cruised to a 6-1 win this afternoon in the Pontins League, against Oxford United Reserves.

With starting places given to Perrett, Holmes, Feeney, Showunmi and Underwood, they were always going to be too much of a handful for Oxford.

They got off to the perfect start when Feeney evaded two tackles in the first minute before passing to Holmes for an easy finish.

Oxford could have equalised two minutes later but Odubade lifted the ball over the crossbar after beating the offside trap.

Luton also fielded French trialist Romain Le Roux, whom I believe to be the 22 year-old Harrow Borough midfielder, who joined them in August 2005 following his move to England from his native France, where he played for Carquefou and FC Nantes Atlantique, and he showed great skill in crossing for Stevens who went close.

Feeney had opportunities to extend the lead when he fired over when well placed, after good work by Enoch, and then was played into space by Stevens but his shot lacked power and was saved by Oxford keeper, Tucker.

Showunmi then beat the offside trap to calmly slide the ball past the advancing keeper for 2-0.

Luton created many more chances before half time, but failed to convert them and went in at half time two goals to the good.

Luton ran riot in the second half with an early goal from a Perrett header followed by Danny Stevens tapping in after a Showunmi cross caused mayhem in the visitors’ defence.

Russ Perrett was too strong for the beleaguered Oxford defenders and headed home his second from a corner by Underwood.

Zach Barrett was brought on for Dean Brill after 73 minutes and made a couple of good saves, before Luton rounded off their afternoon with a good finish by Green for number six.

Feeney and Underwood were both taken off after 68 minutes, and seemingly came through unscathed after their recent injuries.

Surprisingly, in the circumstances, Oxford got a consolation goal late on which was scored by Brooks, but they will return to Oxford wondering how they did not concede double figures!

Le Roux looked useful on the ball, but whether the Town will have seen enough potential in him to pursue their interest will remain to be seen.
