Luton release Perrett

Russ Perrett has today been given a free transfer.

The centre back whose career has been plagued by injury, is 34, and has only managed 200 appearances in his career, 108 at Luton and his most trouble free season was his first with the Town when he made 41 in the season.

AFC Bournemouth are believed to have been in talks with Perrett this week as reported in the Bournemouth local press.

With Luton boss Kevin Blackwell stating that he needs to add experience to the squad, it seems strange to release a player who fits the bill, especially when he was so effective in League 1 previously. That said his injury record is poor and perhaps the manager sees this as the right time to replace him with a player who can retain fitness.

The Hatters are left with only 2 first team centre backs in Leon Barnett and chris Coyne, and Barnett may not be at the club too much longer himself if a bid in excess of £3 million comes in for him.

It is to be hoped that KB has at least 2 centre backs on his shopping list over the next couple of weeks!

Perrett has always been a steady and committed player when fit and has weighed in with some vital goals and knock downs from set pieces, and I am sure that all Town fans will wish him well for the future.
