Luton – Our Rise Will Continue But……..

These are exciting times to be a Luton Town fan with a Championship play-off place up for grabs.

Our destiny is in our own hands, and we all know that if the Hatters can clinch a play-off place anything could happen.

Promotion, to the Premier League, could see the Hatters benefit from a massive financial boost.

But whilst the euphoria grips us all, perhaps we should sit back and reflect on how far we’ve come.

It wasn’t that long ago that we bade farewell to non-league football, after spending years trying desperately to escape its clutches.

Our movement, through the leagues, has been spectacular at times but also based on solid foundations.

I’m under no illusions that if we do get promoted, life in the Premier League would be a hard struggle, survival would be the sole target.

But it sure would be fun, mixing it with English football’s big guns.

In football, you sometimes can’t plot your future, it’s a game with its own quarks and charm.

Viewing social media, it does raise a chuckle to see posts like the one below:

I think I’d rather cross swords with that lot from down the road than pass them going in opposite directions.

But while, down the road, a possible Wembley final beckons, we should never forget the path we’ve trodden

I couldn’t have put it better myself.

Morning mh, would one season in the prem be a good or bad thing. Against we would certainly be Relegated straight back down and face some horror scores. But players would gain experience. The £190,000,000 earned would pay for the new stadium. And with skilled recruitment raise the standards of the team. Or do we go the Brentford route an keep reaching the play off games until the new stadium is built an then push. Both ways have merit. But a 1 season in the prem would probably suit the owners more than supporters.

some good points Chris, the novelty might wear off after a few heavy defeats but, to me, its all about the money, it could safeguard our future, if spent right.

I agree 1 season take the money then rebuild so that we can continue with the journey in a fit way.

Very good points raised and would no doubt be a dire experience for a year but the money would do so much long term good and we have amazing owners who will use it to the shrewdest and most effective manner… My big concern is the cost to our culture as a team, as for a number of years we have built an incredible ethic that is unrivalled in all divisions and is our true strength to compete with such a small budget. If we face a whole year of heavy defeats, turnover a number of players, lose key personnel once proven themselves in Orem to rivals, I hope we have the mental strength to ensure and keep that ethic going for many more years… But first… Let’s get over the line!

Steve, very good points you raise. Risk versus reward. And on balance I think your right. The damage to our culture could be very dangerous an disastrous.

i prefer the brentford way. i dread to think what would happen to all of our players, right down to the youngsters. i know the benifits of a quick fix by promotion, but how would the supporters feel getting beat by big scores week in week out, like norwich. would be hard to take after this season. keep enjoying the ride. Yes if we were to go up , I think we all know it would be very hard for the team but if we were not to go up how many of the team would we have next season . We already know clubs are looking but if we went up we would be in a better situation I feel and these players would be worth more after a season in the premiership so it’s a win both ways for our club .
