Luton – No One Likes Watford

|

We are at the time of the year, with the 2020/2021 season completed, where the PFA hand out their array of awards.

The one I find interesting relates to those chosen for the divisional team of the year the players vote for.

Now, to be brutally honest, I did not expect any of our own squad to be nominated, as the chosen XI is normally formed from those sides that earned promotion.

And viewing the chosen XI, as published by The BBC, that has proven to be the case for the 2020/2021 season with the majority of the XI coming from Norwich City and Brentford.

However, it is great to see individuals selected from the likes of Reading and Blackburn Rovers, deserved recognition for the work put in this season.

The XI selected can be viewed below:

• Krul (Norwich City)
• Henry (Brentford)
• Pinnock (Brentford)
• Hanley (Norwich City)
• Aarons (Norwich City)
• Olise (Reading)
• Skipp (Norwich City)
• Buendia (Norwich City)
• Pukki (Norwich City)
• Toney (Brentford)
• Armstrong (Blackburn Rovers)

Of the XI selected, it is great to see Max Aarons make the list as Max learned his trade with the Hatters from 2009-2014 before moving to Carrow Road.

But one thing immediately struck me about the XI selected, it does not contain a single representative from the team that finished second in the Championship table – Watford!

It is not just us, but it appears no one likes Watford or is it just my biased opinion?

It is your biased opinion! The reason is almost certainly that the voting (which is normally done using written forms) is usually done in early March. Norwich were top and Brentford were in second position at that time. Rico was injured in February and was out for the rest of the season so the timing of the vote would explain his selection. Watford equaled the best ever Championship defensive record so it does seem strange that none of their defenders were chosen. Players such as Darjuma (Bournemouth) – who appeared in some Championship teams of the season – made a big impact and scored a large number of goals during the last part of the season, but too late for the PFA voting.

I take your point Peter, gonna miss playing you next season, two brief encounters, one win each!

    • Danny says:

blah blah blah ZZzzz more sour grapes from that trophyless outfit down the road 😭😭

      • Steve says:

Seeing as your obviously 12 years old you will never have witnessed Luton ever playing the the EPL or Europe or ever in fact ever finishing above against YOUR bitter rivals. As for that “trophy” is that not the same one we play our U23’s in? I’d much rather win the Championship play off’s or finish in the top two and play in the Premier Division of English football

In reality calling Watford Luton a “rivalry” is a bit like comparing Fulham to Chelsea. We played in the same division for a bit but we’re league above you!

        • Danny says:

i’ve sat/stood in every stand at your allotments and seen us turn you lot over going back to “83”, many sweet victories.
2002 was a particularly enjoyable victory, I’ve never laughed so hard since having watched YOUR players running off YOUR pitch at full-time.
It must be such fun supporting the perennial bridesmaids !

          • Steve says:

2002 finished above you then. 26 years is a bloody big shadow 😂😂😂😂

          • Stephen says:

The Derby game means so much to Luton Lol..
Watford have moved on to much higher levels and I don’t believe we will have to play u again for at least 67 years.

Good video for all Luton scammers to watch its called Sandwich in the bin…You can find it on You Ors Tv

        • LF says:

          It’s ‘YOU’RE’

The irony being – even my 12 year old daughter knows that.

          • Danny says:

oh dear oh dear, you’ve made a right tit of yourself there haven’t you 😂😂😂

            COYH

      • KateMaryRose says:

Amen to that. Go Golden boys!!

      • Chris Riddick says:

Why worry about another team? IMO the best two teams in the division were automatically promoted. Brentford were the best of the rest. By saying no one likes Watford makes fans sound bitter.

  • Steve Furniss says:

Time for you to move on from this and concentrate on your own progression

  • WatfordMike says:

Excellent baiting. I’m definitely going to have a nibble, so well played! Going through the selected team it is choc full of good players, no arguments there. At Watford we have a number of very good players, and perhaps benefited from superior coaching in order to end up with a better team. As it is a team sport, this is what matters. Cap doffed to the likes of Ivan Toney, though, he was excellent against us.

Just for a bit of perspective, there are currently no Luton players good enough to play Premier League football and only a handful of our current squad at Watford (and Brentford) are good enough. That’s the harsh reality. The step up to the Premier League is a big one, and having spent the last 5 seasons there we have all seen up close the huge jump in quality so we know what is required in order to do well.

Good luck for next season, lads. It’s been a bit boring having you struggling so badly for the last 30 years. I do remember when you had a half decent team in the mid 1980’s, over 35 years ago. You are, sadly, so far behind Watford now that any fixture between us means a lot more to you than it does to us. Remember, a lot of us have donated more than once to keep you guys afloat. I’d love to see you promoted to the Premier League and surviving (just below us obviously) but with your current ownership, stadium and business model, this seems like nothing more than a dream for you guys.

  • Graham says:

How does 23 clean sheets in a season and a Championship record equally defence not earn at least 1 spot? End of the day it doesn’t matter. Championship football isn’t about popularity contests it’s about promotion and £175m in the back pocket. We’ll take that and pretty much the best defence the Championship has ever seen straight back up to the EPL.

  • Matty Ruscoe.. says:

Well i have to agree progress is a lovely thing and sour gapes at our promotion is small change luton need to get new ground and perhaps in 30 years time we can resume battle in the big boys leaguer where we are staying !

  • Alan says:

You will have 1 season again….then you will be back in championship with your pay off….

    • Steve says:

It was 5 seasons last time Alan, a phenomenal achievement for a club of our size. I’d guess one season is more likely than five, but remember we put away Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Leicester, Southampton, Wolves, Villa (multiple times each) in recent seasons. Luton would, of course, love to have had just one of the 4 promotions to the Premier League we have won since ’99. Frankly, your crowning glory of the last 30 years is getting back up into the Championship, a division we love and respect, but one which is nothing when compared to the Premier League. Your style of football is straight out of the 90’s – all aggression and no skill. Your stadium is out of the 70’s. It is comfortably the worst stadium in the Championship. My children play on better pitches at grass roots level than your 1st team play on at Kenilworth. If it is your highlight when you occasionally beat us, then I guess that is something for you to cling on to. For us, given the difference in levels over the last several decades, we just see you as a chance to get points, not really as a competitive rival.

    • Watford says:

      Hahahaha

  • Danny says:

I believe most Luton supporters would accept that 12th place in the Championship was a pretty good showing for your teams efforts last season. However it will be difficult to repeat the same position this coming season, when your finances allow, in the main only free transfers. To your credit you have good football people at the heart of the club, with pretty much zero chance of any of them giving less than 100% for the cause

But our respective clubs have in all fairness drifted apart, with the chances of playing each other regularly in the future, very slim….save for the possibility of a cup draw. Having spoken to many Luton fans, both before and after our defeat a Kenilworth road, I made my view very clear, and it was that if the result hampered our chances of promotion, then I would be totally gutted, and if not I would see the result as just another defeat. I have supported Watford since 1970, so have witnessed quite a few defeats at the hands of Luton, but for me its not the same anymore.

  • jimbo says:

at the end of the day money has seen watfords rise into the prem. its so good to see the bitterness still exists between two good clubs, but keep looking over your shoulder watford,we will catch and surpass you. i have supported luton since 1967, and a win over watford will be just as sweet now as it was back then.i would love to say i have no bad feelings towards watford, but i would be lying. its in our DNA.enjoy your year in the prem.COYH.

  • Stephen says:

Luton is a total shi t hole of a place.Low life fans who look for food in dustbins.
Probably the worst ground in the championship.
Mark my words Luton will soon be back where they belong in league 2 lol.

    • Mad Hatter says:

must have taken you a long time to come up with such long words!

    • Chris winter says:

Moon over the water an migs ring any bells or stevenage mecca ha ha

    • Danny says:

What a silly comment, while nobody needs to hide their contempt for the other (ie Luton or Watford) if that’s what they feel, we can still debate football between ourselves without that nonsense. I live in Luton as do many Watford fans, and I also work with a couple of town fans, who are happy to seriously debate football, and their respective experiences supporting their club over the past 40 plus years. Sure we take the piss when the other team loses, but underneath it all, we all love the game along with its rich history

      • Chris winter says:

At least luton fans don’t cheat an blow a refs whistle during a game to get a penalty against bitter rivals like you bunch of cheats did cause you was so desperate to win. Furphy an mates endean cheats one an all.!!!

      • Chris winter says:

That’s why you’re the scum an always will be.

    • Alan says:

Stephen, if this fixture means nothing to you and your squeaky voiced mates, why are you calling us low life….you need to take a look nearer to home m8….without Dame Eltons money nobody would have ever heard of you….

  • Keith says:

I always use to enjoy these derbies. One that sticks out for me is Kirk Stephens last gasp winner at vicarage road getting a 1-0 win on the day👍👍

    • Danny says:

If your memory is that good then you surely won’t have forgotten Luton receiving a 4-0 thrashing at your place, courtesy of the Golden Boys

  • Phil says:

Just wonder how many managers twatford will have in yet another trophyless season before they get their massive failure payoff for getting relegated.

    • Stephen says:

Watford FC £140 million pound squad
Luton low life’s-Squad of very little value.

Watford Top stadium fit for 21st century.
Luton stadium not fit for farm cattle(Stadium is falling apart,But the low life’s love it.

Please scummers comparing Watford to Luton is like comparing a Top of the range Ferrari to a robin reliant.

      • Mad Hatter says:

Stephen, at least we have never had to close a stand because it was condemned mate!

        • Danny says:

This season Luton supporters will no doubt be desperate to emulate their clubs amazing climb up the table last time out, to….wait for it …12th. For a small club with no money to spend, you do quite well…congratulations!!!

  • Stephen says:

The old condemned stand at Watford…Looks better than Kenilworth road mate.

    • Chris winter says:

Crawl back to your pond. Never met a Watford fan yet who didn’t run away as soon as luton fan appeared. Even with no fans allowed your police called out the riot squad cause they were frightened of us coming over. Pond life an you know you are that’s why you are all giving it large on here. If we met at a game you’d all be squashed in the family enclosure again. Didn’t save you then did it 😛😛😛😛

      • Danny says:

is England’s worst ever manager turnip taylor still in his cardboard box 😂😂😂 how utterly embarrassing, only in w@tford would that happen

        COYH

      • Stephen says:

Dream on…Watford would stand up to Luton mate.
I live in Cardiff…I heard how the Cardiff city soul Crewe ran Luton all over Ninian park lol.

        • Chris winter says:

You never have or will. An Cardiff are a very good crew lots of respect to them I know many of them. Unlike your 10 men who don’t stand a chance as they have no support

  • Danny says:

for all the triggered yellow bellies on here the history books don’t lie, w@tford are a club that’s not won a single trophy in 140 years 😂😂😂 yep, ONE HUNDRED & FORTY YEARS 😂😂😂 your latest failings losing 6 – 0 to Man City made hilarious viewing especially the waving of the white flags at 5 – 0 down, how very, very w@tford like.
18 goals conceded with none scored in the last 3 games against against Man City 😂😂😂 next season is going to be comedy gold on tap.

Finally, how’s the Head to Head record against us looking 😂😂😂 forever in our shadow !

    COYH

  • Stephen says:

Luton fans are very bitter and twisted people…Jealous of Watford fc.
Keep going to your cattle shed of a ground.
Are u going to ban away fans again (Like 1985-86)and do your stupid I D sceme like You did after Millwall smash the cattle shed up.
    Jokers from top to bottom.

  • Filth Rostron says:

how’s that Head to Head record versus us going ?

  • Stephen says:

Head to head in Premier League

Watford Fc Had total 7 years in Premier(Starting 8th in August).

Luton Town never played in Premier League(But have played in Conference for 4 years)…
This is a highlight of Luton town.

    • Alan says:

Just watch mick harford stamping through twatfords pathetic goal celebration….he wasn’t even a luton player them either….hate sticks….try using 4 managers this season, see if one of them can save you….rather be a mid table championship team with no debt, than a mickey mouse prem yoyo side living beyond their means….enjoy your one season getting battered week in week out…..

  • Filth Rostron says:

too ashamed to use the full head to head record eh aww bless x

    • Danny says:

12th place …Wow!! Who saw that coming. Certainly done very well…for such a small club, who needed last seasons season ticket money early, just to pay the players wages.

      Small club…but 12th place…unbelievable

  • Stephen says:

Luton will always be a small club lol

  • Stephen says:

Lol…Making most of the bars in town.

Enough said from both of us…Enjoy weekend

  • Stephen says:

At least we both follow England in euro s

    • Chris winter says:

Yet again got to put up a team with bottle who stand up for there team unlike ayou who’s just like a man utd or Liverpool supporter who’s just a glory hunter. Aah shame see you next time we play you I’m the one wearing the military vet t shirt. Let’s see your bottle then.
