Luton – More Of The Same Please Nathan

Ahead of the midweek fixture, against Millwall, here at Vital Luton Town, we joined the growing clamour for Nathan Jones to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven.

Our article – luton-nathans-millwall-dilemma – championed such a drastic demand after witnessing consecutive defeats, against Cardiff City and Stoke City, where the Hatters were, at best, extremely poor.

Nathan duly obliged and for the Millwall game the gaffer made, if I can count right, six changes.

It was a move that gained the approval of the Hatters faithful, with the selection of social media comments, below, illustrating the point:

Sadly, after leading for so long, the Hatters conceded a last-gasp stoppage time and had to be content with a share of the spoils.

Many of the posts left after the game, blamed the fact that Nathan brought on the old guard to see out time, as the posts below show:

This Saturday, Luton welcome Sheffield Wednesday, to Kenilworth Road, for a Championship fixture. With only 1 point taken from the last 9 available and with Sheffield Wednesday fighting for their Championship lives, it is a game Luton just have to win.

Sat here in the editorial chair, I am throwing my support behind Nathan Jones being brave and going for, more-or-less, the same starting eleven he opted for against Millwall.

But is that a ploy you would offer your support to?

Please feel free to air your views in the comment facility beneath this article.

Hi mh, I agree with the above comments but I would make 1 change. If fit I would play lockyer. But rea must not get on the pitch!!! Now rea has had some great games but at the moment looks completely out of his depth. I don’t know why his game has deserted him. But for me he needs a rest. Like sluga did when he first arrived. An then hopefully he can return an put in the type of performance’s he used to give

Good point Chris, rest him then see if he his game comes back, Sluga overcame a difficult spell so Rea might be able to as well

Stick with the same side as Tuesday unless Pearson or Lockyear are fit must win game Rea in my opinion is out of his depth some of the other players have to hold there hand up and say they have not been at it for the last thew games big clear out in the summer is what is needed

I agree. Go with the same team but if Lockyer is fit then he has to go in. I think he has been outstanding this season.
The only change I would make is when bringing on subs. I would have gone with Moncur over Pelly when he brought Ince off. At least he keeps the ball and would have kept the threat going forward.
I completely agree with comments about Rea. He is having a bad spell and could probably benefit from a few weeks off, just to find his form again. I am sure he would come back better for it.
They just need to stay positive as a team and keep coming at the opposition right to the final whistle. Tuesday was great to watch (until the last 10 minutes) more of the same please lads. COYH

Hi mh, just read njs comment about fans getting on the backs of some players. And then he goes on to say that they are tired. First we all respect what they have done in the past no question. And then he shoots himself in the foot. If as fans have been saying players need to be dropped. Why say they are tired that surely says he’s been getting it wrong. Give them a rest an start the likes of moncur Berry bree if fit nombe tunnicliffe it’s a squad as he claims constantly so they should play a run of games surely. Without it affecting results. It seems to me that as many of the fans have said he shows to much loyalty to certain players. This has to stop. Managers have to make hard choices that’s what they are paid for. An if that puts players noses out of joint so be it.

Luton are ten points behind where they could have been with more resolute defending and more belief in their attacking abilities, just a slight lack of confidence and showing too many opponents too much respect, apart from this they deserve high praise
