After it was announced that the Hatters would not be retaining George Moncur, it was always going to be a matter of time before he found a new club.

Yesterday, it was confirmed by, The 72, that Moncur had accepted an offer from newly promoted Hull City and, as a result, will remain a Championship player.

It is always sad when somebody who was well liked by the Hatters support leaves Kenilworth Road and George’s departure is no different.

During his spell with the Hatters, George made 52 league appearances for the club, with his spell with us interrupted by injuries and not being selected by the manager.

It seems strange that Moncur has signed for Hull just days after Reece Burke left the very same side to move to Luton, also on a free transfer.

His departure has, as you would expect, generated a deluge of social media comments wishing him all the best, as those listed below perfectly illustrate.

While others have bemoaned the fact Luton did not do more to keep him:

Here at Vital Luton, we would like to wish George all the best at Hull City, but we have our fingers crossed he does not come back to haunt us, especially with those deadly free kicks.

there’s no doubting Moncs was technically one of the best players at the club, a match winner, however i think there were parts of his game which fell short which is the reasoning behind NJ limiting his opportunities to just 5 full games out of 52 appearances which made it very difficult to offer him a new contract, same as lua lua.
That said, i would still have given him a new 1yr deal even though he would have been a luxury player.
As far as a trade off with Hull goes i think we’ve got the better deal with Burke joining, younger, hungrier, fitter & scope for improvement with potential revenue from any future transfer.

interesting point MH, but not one that i’m aware of, Burke had offers from Derby, Bristol City & Cardiff all of which would have most likely offered more money but being a Londoner location swung the deal our way is my understanding of his choice to join us.
I didn’t realise Hull paid £1.5m for him three years ago !
