Yesterday, with a lull in the news, before things started to pick up late afternoon, we revisited an old inference.

Our article – yes-but-who-will-it-be – covered the ongoing suggestion that, despite the summer splurge, Nathan Jones was still looking to add another midfielder to his squad.

Them lo and behold, during his chat with the media ahead of the visit of Sheffield United, this Saturday, the gaffer revisited the same subject.

As reported by Luton Today, Jones discussed the midfield situation in some depth, remarking:

“That is the position we’re trying to find.

“Without giving away too many secrets, we know we are slightly lighter in midfield.

“Berry has been injured but we made calculated decisions with Morrell, while Tunni was slightly different.

“We know we have lost a number of midfield players but what we want to do is bring in someone who is either different or going to be a starter.”

That is good to hear, our performances this season have indicated that we could do with that something extra in midfield, somebody to compliment Campbell and Lansbury and provide competition for Mpanzu.

Continuing, Jones added:

“I don’t want to bring a number in because we have enough numbers that can cope.

“We have purposely kept a position there so if someone becomes available, we are able to act on it.

“That is what we have done.”

With the summer transfer window set to slam shut on 31-August, Nathan does not have that much time to play with if that spare slot it to be filled.

Could we be set for an exciting deadline day with the Hatters homing in on a target and getting the deal across the line before the window slams shut until January?

It will be a tall order, but I have got my fingers crossed.
