Unless something dramatic happens in the January transfer window, here at Vital Luton Town we intend focussing on what is one of the more intriguing FA Cup 4th round ties, Luton’s trip to take on Chelsea.

The tie, being shown live on the BBC, has the, with Chelsea being on a poor run of form, the possibility of being one of the giant killings of the round.

But did you know the clash at Stamford Bridge, on Sunday, will be the fourth occasion the two sides have met in the FA Cup.

The first time was way back in the 1926/1927 season when the two teams played a 3rd round tie at Stamford Bridge, sadly the Hatters were on the end of a 4-0 defeat.

The second time, also in the 3rd round, came in the 1934/1935 when the Hatters again travelled to Stamford Bridge and earned a replay with a 1-1 draw. In the replay at Kenilworth Road, it was Luton that emerged victorious with a 2-0 win to earn a place in the 4th round.

The last time the two sides met in the FA Cup, and the third time in the history of the greatest domestic cup competition in the world, cam in the 1993/1994 season when a splendid FA Cup run saw the Hatters reach the semi-final.

Played at Wembley, the Hatters support were hopeful of pulling off a shock and reach the FA Cup Final for a second time. But it was not to be, two goals from Gavin Peacock ensured it was a miserable journey back home to Bedfordshire.

The Luton team for that disappointing defeat contained some familiar faces:

Team – Sommer, Linton (Hartson 66), Peake, Dreyer, James, Harper, Telfer, Preece, Hughes, Oakes, Dixon.

I wonder what fate holds in store for the Hatters this Sunday!
