Yesterday, as far as the history books go, will forever be remembered as the day it became common knowledge, Nathan Jones was linked with the vacant managerial position at Southampton.

However, lurking among the plethora of Luton based articles was a piece of potential transfer tittle-tattle.

Our associates at footballleagueworld were reporting that Luton were showing an interest in the young Motherwell defender, Max Johnston.

Johnston, at just 18-years-of-age, is on the books of Motherwell is on a season long loan spell with Cove Rangers.

Our referenced source reckons Luton had Johnston watched, on Friday night when Cove Rangers beat Queens Park.

English by birth, Johnston has made just two appearances for his parent club and could follow Allan Campbell to Kenilworth Road with Campbell also having been on the books of the Scottish Premier League side before his move to Luton, even more so with Johnston becoming a free agent at the end of the current season.

If a move does materialise, I’d imagine that Johnston would be one for the future instead of somebody who could slip straight into our first eleven.
