Retired and with time on my hands, it is my quest, this transfer window, to keep a beady eye on the grapevine to report on any players linked with Luton Town.

So far, the quest has been a little fruitless but, today, a snippet of a rumour has surfaced.

According to Team Talk, Luton are among a host of clubs looking at signing the Wigan Athletic winger, Jordan Jones.

Jones, a Northern Ireland international, is 27-years-of-age and moved to Wigan from Glasgow Rangers in the summer.

As well as Luton showing an interest, the likes of Derby County, Reading, Blackpool and Barnsley are all said to be keen.

But is Jordan Jones someone I can see being signed by Luton?

To be honest I would have to say NO.

Since signing from Rangers, Jones has made 14 appearances for Wigan but only 6 of those have been starts, which would suggest he’s hardly setting League One alight so could struggle in the Championship.

Also, at 27-years-of-age, if we are to make a signing of that age, I’d suspect we would be bringing someone in who could make an instant impact and not just become a squad player.

But are those views you agree with?

This seems an odd one. Supposedly, we and three or more other Championship teams are in for him and he can’t get into Wigan’s team. He’s 27 so should be in his prime, but I can’t see past his failure to nail down a place at Wigan.

Alarm bells would be ringing as he cant get in a team that should be playing championship football we need to be looking at a striker as we are short in thst area
