Luton Keeper Shows That The Money Was Well Spent

As the Hatters continue to defy the critics and show that they do have a chance of remaining in the Championship, one man can hold his head high and reflect on just how he’s turned his season around.

Brought to the club as our record signing, Simon Sluga didn’t have the best of starts in his Luton career.

Error upon error led to the Kenilworth Road support calling for Graeme Jones to drop him and bring in James Shea.

But Graeme Jones didn’t and the errors continued.

When Sluga was finally axed, many feared he’d been an expensive mistake.

But given his chance again he’s shown that he is up to the task.

Before the 2019 / 2020 season was rudely interrupted, Sluga pulled off a great injury-time save to ensure the Hatters held on to a point at Wigan.

Since the season resumed, Sluga has continued to look solid and away to Leeds United, he produced another couple of fine saves to ensure Luton held on to a point.

Following the match and as reported by Luton Today, Nathan Jones summed up his #1 keeper in a few words:

“He’s been wonderful since I’ve come in and he was superb today.”

And there are also posts on social media that praise Sluga:

Now there’s no doubting that Sluga’s errors, earlier in the season, cost Luton Town points, but wouldn’t it be ironic if the Hatters stayed up courtesy of Sluga’s return to superb form?

Hi mh, as I’ve said before if Jones had listened to older heads advice none of this would have probably happened. But being a stubborn fool he let sluga down badly. So now we see what mick an his team saw in sluga let’s hope we can hold on to him an he doesn’t go to Turkey.

I think we’ll definitely need to retain our Championship status for him to say and even then our financial situation could mean he has to go if a good offer is received.

Hi all, slug has proved he is quality keeper, but also proved he needed time to settle in…gj didn’t listen or give him a fair settling in time…
