Luton – It Is A Funny Old Game

As I may have mentioned before, the modern game is a far cry from the game I grew up watching.

But one aspect of the so-called modern game really rankles with me.

Watching as much football as I can, both live and televised, something has gotten me puzzled.

When, in the modern game, there is the slightest bit of contact, especially from behind, players crumple to the ground as if they’ve been pole-axed.

Quite often, especially when their side is leading and the so-called ‘game management’ factor comes into play, the physio is needed to provide a miraculous recovery.

But, looking at physical contact from another angle, has anyone noticed that when a team scores, those same players that crumple to the ground are now able to show remarkable strength and support, five, six or even seven team mates as they jump on them in celebration!

Like the late Jimmy Greaves used to say – “It’s a funny old game.”

The so called game management is a strange fairly modern part of the game, that seems to be growing more & more…..just footnote on Chris’s apology, there was no need. I only took umbrage to the “we are dog shite” comment. I’m lucky enough to see a lot of these players at close quarters & the work they put in….sometimes it can be the opposition that make ” pretty football” impossible….so it’s a case of needs must.

Alan, you may want to read his apology again it’s not what it seems.

Mick, I have read it. Its his opinion, he doesn’t have to apologise. It was just one comment that I questioned…

  • Alan says:

I would question chris, on the intellect part of his post. But that’s another matter. Maybe opinions are going out of the window on here….
