Luton – It Didn’t Quite Go As I’d Hoped

There’s a day to go until the Hatters tangle with Fulham, in a match that could see Luton seize a Championship ply-off place.

Yesterday, ahead of the 15:00 hour Championship kick-offs, I ran an article – fingers-crossed-things-go-our-way-elsewhere-today – highlighting the fixtures that could play a part in our hopes to clinch that previously mentioned play-off place.

Naturally, I hoped that results would go in our favour, but it wasn’t to be.

Out of the fixtures I highlighted, only Blackburn Rovers lost, being comprehensively beaten by Bournemouth.

As for the rest, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield, Millwall and Nottingham Forest all won with the net result being that only Blackburn Rovers dropped out of contention for a play-off place.

Summarizing, Fulham are promoted, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are contesting that second automatic promotion place, Huddersfield Town are certain of a play-off place which leaves Luton Town, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Millwall to fight for the wo remaining places.

But, looking at the table, Luton and Sheffield United are in pole position having accumulated two points more than Middlesbrough and three more than Millwall, plus Luton have a game in hand over the other three sides.

Our future, clearly, remains in our own hands.
