Luton manager Mike Newell has confirmed that he is interested in Aberdeen’s Scottish international defender Kevin McNaughton.

The 23-year-old defender has turned down a new deal at Pittodrie and is out of contract this summer.

Newell has been impressed with scouting reports, so much so that he watched him play against Heart on Wednesday.

After the match Mike said:

Obviously I know Kevin is out of contract and the reports I have had back on him have been very good.

‘Whenever I am looking at a player, I like to go and see him in action for myself and make my own mind up, but he did well.

‘At this stage, I don’t know where Kevin wants to play his football next season, but he is a player I plan on following up my initial interest on.’

While the player will be available under the Bosman ruling, Aberdeen will be entitled to compensation as he is under 24 years of age.
