Luton – Hatters Hero Heading For The Exit Door

With the summer transfer window now officially open, it’ll be interesting, over the coming weeks, to see what business the Hatters conduct.

Here at Vital Luton Town, we’re not expecting it to be as busy as last summer, but we’re certainly expecting some deals to be done, deals that will see some players leave and some fresh faces arrive.

Last week, the first mutterings began to emerge suggesting that Danny Hylton’s time at Kenilworth Road could be up.

The striker, now 33-years-of-age, is out of contract at the end of this month and according to footballinsider247, is said to be interesting several League 1 and League 2 clubs.

Last season, as Luton just failed to make the play-off final, Hylton was, it must be said, on the fringe of things.

As far as the Championship goes, Danny only made 5 starts, plus a further 12 appearances from the bench, in the Championship games he participated in, he grabbed 4 goals, scoring against Bristol City (a), Stoke City (a), Derby County (h) and Peterborough United (a).

Although loved by the Luton fans, who are appreciative of the effort Danny was part of in climbing back into second tier of English football from the depths of non-league, we must ask, have we seen the last of Danny in a Luton shirt:

Has Hylton Played His Last Game For Luton?

I think a lot of people here think his days are done at luton. An he isn’t up to championship level is that true though. 5 starts 17 appearances after major injury. Compared with Jerome goals scored an appearances he comperes well an is younger. Yet many rated him a good signing. So what does Danny rate. Now I’m not bothered if he goes or stays. But let’s credit his contributions last year he was as good as Jerome.

he was as good as Jerome, but I thought Jerome offered a bit more to the side in a physical nature but then again, like you point out, strikers are about goals. I just feel he’ll be moved on to free up a space in the squad for a younger man, but who remains to be seen.

That may be mh. Not as physical but gets in defenders hair. But my point stands people want to keep Jerome but bomb out hylton on here. Yet their stats are similar so why is hylton not up to it? If Jerome is.

Hi Chris, for me it is simply about abundance of cool, calm experienced heads vs young, athletic and available first teamers… 2 slots for this role feels excessive and could be better used. Jerome gets the nod for me not from stats but from the level of experience he brings… Love Hylts, he is a legend and want him to be playing every week as he deserves that opportunity, just feel that he may not get that at Luton next season and would be a waste of an amazing talent. If he leaves it will be with nothing but love from all of us I am sure.

Fair points an no argument about that as I said I don’t mind if he stays or goes what I object to is those that have said he’s not championship level an want him out. At least you have articulated your reasoning unlike some Steve.

hylton should go and join a club where he can get regular games and become a legend again before he retires. i personally don’t think he has the quality for the championship.he needs a fresh start. we need to employ strong young players who don’t get injured all the time. remember how many players were injured this last season, we can’t have that again..COYH.

Hi all , I can see this from both sides and I agree with what is beening said , I for one would be sad to see him go what a player he has been for Luton from that first game against Plymouth and I must admit I thought the beginning of this last season he was not up to it but towards the end of the season as he got more game time he played really well so I think maybe one more season with a bit more game time see how he goes.
