Luton’s offer for out of contract welsh star Dave Edwards was dismissed by Shrewsbury who look to have opted for a traqnsfer tribunal verdict on the amount of compensation they should receive.

The Shropshire Star newspaper reported that Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters is preparing for “a game of poker” over the fee.

Peters has confirmed that he received and rejected a bid from Luton chief executive John Mitchell.

Neither club is willing to confirm the amount bid by Luton but the paper speculated that it was in excess of £200,000 including ‘add-ons’.

The club’s are still negotiating but it looks likely that a tribunal will be needed to decide the outcome, although Peters seems to be pokerfacing the Town.

The newspaper quoted Peters:

“They have made what they would see to be a reasonable offer and we have turned it down. It becomes a game of poker now and when we get closer and closer to the tribunal, someone might try to make something happen.

“There is time to talk between now and the tribunal but we will go to tribunal if that is what it needs.

“Dave has been with us for eight years, has been in all the Welsh age group squads and got into the full squad as well and all those things get taken into consideration.

“We have made him a good contract offer so we feel we have done everything to try and keep him and hopefully that will set up a good impression for the tribunal if it goes to that.”
