Danny Crow scored his second goal in Town colours to give Luton the edge over Southern League Bedford Town at the New Eyrie on Saturday.

The goal came in the 29th minute when a good cross from Drury keft him the easy task of heading home.

It was what it was, a run out for the Hatters and the hosts did enough to test the Town defence on a few occasions. Striker Dan Walker looked lively and a minute before the Town took the lead it took a sharp save by Mark Tyler from Walker to keep the scores level.

Bedford might have equalised when Draycott got over excited in the box and hit his shot way over the bar with the goal beckoning, five minutes after the Hatters’ goal.

The usual mass of substitutions in the second half did little for the flow of play but all those given an outing did enough to show they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Ciaran Toner had another solid performance in midfield without ever being spectacular, but he showed a calm assurance which was good to behold.

There were few chances in the second half but the game should have been made safe in the dying minutes when JJ O’Donnell saw the Eagles’ keeper make a great save and from the rebound the keeper excelled himself again saving from Gallen. Triallist Stefan Bailey was just OK and he really needed to impress more than he did if he is to earn a contract.

I would be surprised if Toner wasn’t offered a contract, but I think the ball will be more in his court than the Town’s, with plenty of Football League clubs interested.

Next up Luton face Cambridge City on Tuesday evening, Marlow on Thursday evening and then Alfreton on Saturday afternoon, all three of which matches are away.
