Luton Town Chairman David Pinkney confirmes today that directors John Mitchell and Richard Bagehot, both charged by the FA in relation to Luton Town’s breaches of the FA’s transfer regulations, have stood down from the Club’s board. The full statement by the club on their official website was:

‘It has been confirmed today by Club Chairman, David Pinkney that in the best interest of the Football Club both John Mitchell and Richard Bagehot have agreed to step down from the board of the Club.

‘Pinkney said: ‘I would applaud their hard work and past commitments to the Club and will miss their energy and enthusiasm.’

‘A further statement from the Club in relation to F.A Charges against the Club and its officials will be forthcoming in due course.’

Ends.

Til Chairman Liam Day greeted the news with cautious approval, however, since no statement was made regarding the two directors concerned having stood down from their positions within the holding company, Luton Town Football Club (Holdings) Limited, (formerly Jayten Stadium Limited), it would seem to be a rather cosmetic act since the holding company effectively owns the major part of the football club. I am sure that neither the fans of the club nor the FA will be totally impressed with gesture!
