Lurking among the many articles with a link to our beloved Hatters is an interesting one related to the possible acquisition of another defender.

Our associates over at Luton Today were quick to report that Luton Town are giving a trial to a young defender, Baba Fernandes.

Fernandes, 22-years-of-age, was on the books of Nottingham Forest but has been released now that Forest have reached the Premier League.

His experience in a Forest shirt was limited last season with Fernandes just making 2 Carabao Cup matches.

Last night, as Luton took on Hitchin Town in their familiar start to the raft of friendly fixtures they will play, Fernandes was part of the XI that started the game, with Nathan Jones playing a completely different XI in the second half, in a game which Luton won 3-0.

But how did Fernandes perform?

Did he do enough to further his claims for a permanent deal at Kenilworth Road?

On occasions he looked okay, but on other occasions errors he made could have led to Hitchin scoring, but for the efforts of others.

Now I’m not suggesting that his future will be determined on how he played last night, I suspect that how he performs on the training ground could be a highly influential factor.

But the big question that must be asked is whether he’s better than what we currently have in his position, currently I’m not so sure he is.

Is that a view you concur with, or disagree with, please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

Morning MH Seems we have a lot going on with regard to another defender being wanted. This guy may be a long term option but is someone else still to leave? What about the interest in Potts and why did Sonny Bradley not figure in the game at Hitchin. Surely he will not follow Naismith for more money?

All other signings look great can’t wait for start of season proper!

I would not waste money on Fernandes but rather bring a a decent midfielder in who can control the ball and not give silly passes away to the opposition – we would then have surplus current midfielders that we need to loan out or sell but think some will be very difficult to sell
