Don’t you just love those people who sit down and reschedule games for television coverage?

Yesterday, news broke that Sky Sports have decided to screen, live, our away fixture against Huddersfield Town.

Clearly, they see it a game that could, considering the fine form of both teams, that could influence the race for the promotion / play-off places in the Championship.

Originally, the fixture was due to be played on Saturday 09-April with a traditional 1500-hour kick-off time.

Now, thanks to Sky Sports, it will take place on Monday 11-April with a 1945-hour kick-off, and I’m seriously vexed!

I have nothing against Luton Town fixtures being shown live by Sky Sports, except for on this occasion.

You see, with it being the half-term break, and with the wife working at a school, we’d arranged a mini break, yes, you’ve guessed it, starting on Monday 11th April.

I guess a bit of sweet talking will be needed on that Monday as I try to find a bar showing the game, wish me luck!

This match move is shitty. Sky can eff off. But no surprise they have zero morals. They happily continue to televise Chelsea and Newcastle matches. And tomorrow will even televise the battle of the war mongers.

I’ve now cancelled my Airbnb and instead of taking my family to see our family up there for the weekend, I have to take a day off work, bomb up on the day to see my family before the match then bomb straight home.

It’s a huge pain the arse and more proof that the most important fans (the ones that go home and away) are treated as the least important. Whenever the next tv deal is agreed, clubs should take some responsibility and demand that they have the final say in whether a match gets shifted. No Monday to Friday games should be held where away fans have to travel more than one hour in a car. Look after those that go home and away or there is no tv “product” worth paying for.

Sorry for the rant. But I do think it’s time football clubs told tv money to fuck off. It only pays inflated wages. Quality players and coaches would still work in the sport if wages across the board dropped because there was less tv money.

Along with backing up Jim’s comments, for us overseas we have to contend with the mysterious machinations of iFollow. One week we get the live stream, the next week we’re told it’s against a “non-iFollow” team or the match is being shown by another broadcaster. With iFollow the bulk of the money goes directly to the club. Therefore, charge me an amount that covers all matches (you can double the subscription if that’s what it takes) and tell the other teams that all games are on iFollow regardless.

p.s. Pub Quiz question from the year 2061 – which team went from World Club Champions to non-league in the space of a year.
