Earlier today, in what has been a busy day, speculation wise, we mentioned a former striker just might be returning to Kenilworth Road.

Our article – former-hatter-set-for-surprise-return – seems to have hit the nail firmly on the head with The Official Luton Town Site confirming that Cauley Woodrow has indeed put pen-to-paper on a contract with the Hatters.

As is the norm these days the transfer fee is described as ‘undisclosed’ but Nathan Jones, on the Official Luton Town Site has waxed lyrical about landing his man, with the gaffer remarking, among other things:

“Cauley is a real standout signing for us – a marquee signing. I’ve worked with him briefly before with England U21s and he’s a player we know really well from his Barnsley days, plus he’s a local lad as well.

“It’s a fantastic signing and I thank the board for being bold, brave and for backing me on this. We are sure that Cauley has the quality to make us better.”

As for the player, he seems equally as chuffed to have returned to Kenilworth Road:

“I’m a bit emotional to be back at Luton Town. This is where I started my journey as a professional footballer and Gary Sweet always said that I’d come back and play one day, and today is the day.

“I’m delighted to be here. I’m a local boy and me and my family are really delighted for me to be so close to home. To be playing my football back where it all started, it is great for me.”

It’s my opinion that it’s great for everybody, Woodrow is a proven Championship striker and, if he remains fit, will be the perfect addition to our strike force as we seek to improve on the commendable sixth place, we achieved last season.

All that remains to be done is to welcome Cauley back to Kenilworth Road, let’s hope his stay is a memorable one and his presence can provide the impetus to push for promotion.

A good piece of business. But hardly a marque signing nj!!!

  • Alan says:

Doughty is a wing back/midfield is he not?

    • Mad Hatter says:

I’m not sure Alan, the local Stoke papers described him as a winger, perhaps he can be our Paul Madeley!

  • Alan says:

Blimey blast from the past… lol….

    • Mad Hatter says:

from the days when everyone had a versatile player who could play anywhere, I believe the only position Madeley never played was between the sticks for Leeds united.

Hi Alan, as I understand it he’s a winger. But can play wing back. Personally when I’ve seen him he’s better as a winger an his passing an crossing are better than Bell. But I guess we’ll find out. Unless nj is going to use him as often as mendes😊

    • Mad Hatter says:

let’s hope not, but his arrival makes me thing Mendes Gomes is set for a loan

Can’t see the sense in that mh. He is proven in lge1 an the Scottish Premier is only national league standard except when playing celtic rangers or Aberdeen. Even then they look league 1 at best!!!!
