After Luton’s final match of the season at Burnley Mike Newell outlined his hopes for next season in an interview with the club’s official website.

Mike was mindful that improvements are necessary and said:

‘You can never stand still or rest on your laurels. We are always trying to improve the squad, as we have done over the last three years.

‘This year will be no different, so yes it is essential that we improve the squad.

‘I don’t know what the budget is for next year, but there will come a day when I find out what is available. I am not expecting it to be millions because there hasn’t been millions since I have been here.

‘There is always a danger that you can miss out on your targets, but you just have to divert your attention elsewhere. We have a got a number of players that we would like to bring in, but even if we had all the money in the world we still wouldn’t get all of them.

‘We are hopeful that we can bring two or three in, maybe even four. We will be looking at players that could go straight into our team, not squad players.

‘We need more defenders and more defensive cover. When we have been struck by injuries, that is when we have struggled, but it is also a case of competition for places at the back.

‘Maybe we need another striker, with a bit more pace up front, but all in all, we have good players in this side.’

Go to it Mike!
