With it being a quite weekend, courtesy of the international break, I thought I would continue with our ‘Best Ever’ series.
After covering the following positions – best-ever-between-the-posts – best-ever-full-back and best-ever-centre-back – it is time to move on to the midfield.
Now I am sure you will agree that, over the years, the Hatters have been blessed with some extraordinary talent when it comes to the midfield area of the pitch.
Just giving the subject some consideration, I have come up with the following:
• Peter Anderson
• Kingsley Black
• Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
• Lil Fuccillo
• Tony Grealish
• Ricky Hill
• Brian Horton
• Ceri Hughes
• Andy King
• Peter Nicholas
• Kevin Nicholls
• Garry Parker
• Mark Pembridge
• David Preece
• Bruce Rioch
• Alan Slough
• Paul Telfer
• Wayne Turner
• Gary Waddock
• Alan West
• Danny Wilson
The above all come form the era in which I have been supporting Luton, I am sure many of you will have recollections of midfield giants that may have played for the Hatters before I began my love affair with the club.
If that is the case, then please feel free to drop their name into the comment facility beneath this article and we will see where this latest episode of our series heads.

Luton – The Kirk Stephens Story
Ricky Hill or Ricky Hill or maybe Ricky Hill or possibly Ricky Hill
This is just as impossible as the rest. Because of eras. Not saying the best. But for drive passion an willingness to die for us as well as join the migs on the terrace when not playing Kevin Nicholls. Like John Moore luton through an through.
lol would have been interesting if he’d have gotten lifted whilst with the MIGS!
Agree 100% Ricky Hill.
Like to add to your list. Bob Morton, Mick Kennedy, Darren McDonnagh, George Cummings.
some good additions there Tony, although some were before my time.
What about Dave Pacey?
Good shout Murray, but he was before my time, although I recall my dad talking about him.
He wouldn’t have been called a midfielder in his day, a deep lying inside left. So definitely George Cummings should be on the list.
Hi MD , these midfield players were all great but in different parts of the pitch Ricky hill will we ever see a better player in a Luton shirt ?? , Peter Anderson was another who could play then Brian Horton to break up the play and get us moving . Alan west was someone who had fantastic days then nothing the next but could turn it on when needed .
I was gutted when Peter Anderson was sold to Antwerp to keep the club solvent.
The Hill / Preece combo must be the best in Lutons history although I am old enough to remember fine performances from Peter Anderson who made a big difference when he arrived.
More recently, I think we’re already really missing Dewsbury-Hall!!
ALL played their part.
But Bruce Rioch, Brian Horton or Ricky for me.
If I was pushed for one it would likely be Mr Hill.
Rioch went on to great things in his career.
for me alan slough was a great servant to luton, but rioch gets my vote.he was lutons version of bobby charlton.COYH.
as a youngster I remember Bruce charging forward from midfield and unleashing some right old power shots.
So difficult some great midfielders but a toss up between Bruce Ricoh and Ricky Hill both sublime
Ricky Hill all day long
Has to be Ricky Hill . Pure quality.
