Luton Manager Kevin Blackwell has confirmed a number of appointments behind the scenes as he as he is true to his word in saying he will rebuild the team from the backroom to the pitch.

SAM ELLIS is confirmed as Assistant Manager, with JOHN CARVER appointed Head Coach.

CHRIS CUMMINS will be The Director of Youth Football, and, in an effort to drag Luton’s approach into the 21st century, NEIL LEWIS is the Club’s Sports Scientist.

In another policy change, Luton have appointed an outside company to provide medical services and DEAN RIDDELL will be the club-based physiotherapist.The aim in this move is to improve the quality of medical service for injured players with top specialists to be used to get players back on the pitch at the earliest possible moment after injury.

Ellis was a centre back before moving into management with Blackpoool from 1982-89.

He was a coach at Manchester City, Burnley and Bury, and Blackwell’s Assistant manager during his spell at Leeds United.

Carver is also an experienced coach and has been caretaker manager at both Leeds and Newcastle.

KB told the Official Luton website:

‘We needed some experienced heads and that is what I am bringing in.’

Cummins will be expected as the Director of Youth Football, to ensure that no prospects in our region go unnoticed.

‘Chris will make sure that we have scouts covering every club as well as contact with managers.’ Blackwell went on.

Lewis as Sports Scientist will be responsible for dietary and lifestyle coaching for the players right through the club, including the juniors and will be assisted by a further graduate sports scientist.
