Labelled as a possible defining night, in our pre-match build-up, that was exactly what last night was.

After fine wines against Hereford (7-0) and Nuneaton (5-0), Luton dished out a third drubbing on the bounce last night when Wrexham were humbled 5-0.

John Still kept an unchanged side for the third game on the bounce and the boss, celebrating a year in charge of the Hatters reaped an early reward when Luke Guttridge scored as early as the 3rd minute, following some poor defending by the Wrexham defence.

The lead was doubled six minutes later when the goal machine that is Andre Gray scored his 24th of the season and then, with 17 minutes on the clock, the game was more-or-less wrapped up when Luke Guttridge got his second of the night.

Wrexham battled gallantly and even managed to hit the bar but the Welsh side were to go 4-0 behind, in the 38th minute, when Paul Benson converted a cross from Ronnie Henry.

In the 70th minute it was game set and match to Luton when Jake Howells was fouled in the box and got back up to his feet to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

News then filtered through that Braintree had beaten Cambridge and as a result Luton Town were now 14 points clear at the top of the Skrill Premier.

Surely, automatic promotion is ours to throw away now!
