Well that went down a treat didn`t it!

I`m just gutted that so few Luton Town fans turned up to see the Hatters turn over a more than decent Aston Villa side.

In balmy weather, at Kenilworth Road, where the humidity really hit you, John Still`s Luton side beat the Premier League side, Villa, in a pre-season friendly.

In the build up to the game, Still had expressed fears that Villa would control the game and Luton would spend ninety-minutes chasing the ball.

But it was far fro that as Luton produced a display that has promotion written all over it. The Hatters took the lead in the twenty-third minute when Jon Shaw finished off a Mark Cullen cross from all of six yards out and wrapped up the game deep into the second half, in the seventy-sixth minute to be precise, when David Howells expertly chipped Brad Guzan in the Villa goal.

Amongst the Villa ranks was Christian Benteke, who recently signed a new deal after looking as if he was venturing to pastures anew, but the Belgian striker never got a look in as he was solidly marked by Steve McNulty.

As for the attendance, it was a slightly disappointing turnout of 4,304 which, and fair play to them, included 675 from Villa.

Bring on Arsenal is what I say!
