The foibles of being a professional footballer are perfectly illustrated when it comes to the likes of Scott Cuthbert, Johnny Mullins, Jordan Cook and Lawson D’Ath.

Not long ago the quartet would have been dancing a jig of delight after being part of the Luton Town squad that celebrated promotion to League One, from League Two.

Yet, a matter of days later, they’re contemplating leaving Kenilworth Road and having to find new clubs after being released by Luton Town.

As free agents, we hope they’re successful in finding clubs offering to give them suitable employment.

But, were at the time of the year when it is a necessity to reorganise squads and the Hatters have confirmed that as well as the named quartet Kavan Cotter has also been released.

However, amongst the negativity is also some positivity with the club hierarchy confirming that two players have been rewarded for the clubs success in the 2017 / 2018 season with Alan McCormack and Glen Rea being given new deals whilst Alan Sheehan, Danny Hylton, James Collins, Elliot Lee, Jack Stacey, James Justin and Frankie Musonda have all been given an extra year on their current contracts.

In our opinion it’s a justifiable reward for what has been a supreme effort.

Continuing, two others who were part of the squad last season, Andrew Shinnie and Flynn Downes have returned to their parent clubs having enjoyed their spells with Luton, we wish the duo well.

There’s also good news for the young Academy defender Jack James who has been offered his first professional contract, after making his debut in the Checkatrade Trophy for the Hatters. You get the feeling a golden future awaits the talented youngster.

Once the dust settles we wouldn’t be too surprised if there are further subtle changes to Nathan Jones squad but the fact that changes have happened certainly illustrates the foibles of life as a professional footballer.
