Working as a goalkeeping coach with Luton Town, the Sunday papers are inferring that the association could soon come to an end.

It would appear that the former England keeper, has applied to become the new manage of a club he holds close to his heart, Portsmouth.

The ailing south-coast club, who have done a Luton and plunged down through the divisions, sacked Guy Whittingham in midweek and, it is understood, have had a plethora of applications to succeed the former striker.

Whether or not James gets the managerial break he is hoping for, remains to be seen.
