I’m Dreaming Of Lady Luck Smiling On Luton Town On Wednesday With A Blast From The Past

The problem when working shifts is that when it comes to your rest days, your body still tends to wake you up at the ungodly hour it does when you have to leave for work.

For me, that is around 05:00 hours and this morning was no different.

Despite trying to get back to the land of nod I couldn’t.

Instead, my mind was consumed by the desperate need to get three points in our vital Championship match with Sheffield Wednesday this Wednesday evening.

A win is the only result that will suit us in our current plight and as the moon shone brightly through the bedroom window, I recalled a few words I penned in an article – more-sunday-morning-blues-for-luton-town-supporters – earlier this week:

“When ‘Lady Luck’ isn’t looking down and smiling, this game of ours we all love can be a hugely frustrating experience, what I wouldn’t give for a game where the Hatters have less possession than the opposition and are constantly on the back-foot but manage to keep a clean-sheet before snatching a late winner.”

My mind also cast itself back to the glory days of the 1974 / 1975 season when the Hatters were a top-flight club.

I remember a game in April when Leicester City were the opposition and, as is the case now, Luton were fighting desperately to avoid relegation.

That particular game saw the Hatters emerge 3-0 winners with Adrian Alston and Jimmy Husband getting among the goals.

But it is the other goal that will always remain long in my memory, it was, quite probably one of the best own-goals I’ve ever seen when Keith Weller scored from an almost impossible position.

To my delight, I’ve found a clip of the game on the internet:

What wouldn’t I give for something similar to happen on Wednesday evening and the hatters to scrape a narrow win, the last few minutes will do, against Sheffield Wednesday this Wednesday evening!

How about it, Lady Luck?

Hi MH, great memories indeed. I completely agree we could do with some lady luck. Think we should definitely be playing more defensively away with hopefully last minute break away winners or at least get an odd draw to help end this abysmal run we are currently on. But as usual MH the main problem is GJ & I fear no matter what we say or think while he is at the helm I can’t see his stubborn, arrogant approach changing anytime soon but we can only try & stay positive & hope things start turning round can’t we?
