Howard searching for ton

Luton Town leading goal scorer Steve Howard is looking forward to scoring his one hundredth goal for the club, after securing his 99th against QPR on Saturday. He might already have reached the ton but for the referee’s decision to rule out a headed goal in favour of a free kick to QPR’s keeper, Simon Royce.

He told Luton Town’s Official website that he believed the goal should have stood, as he felt he had taken the ball cleanly. ‘However, that’s the way the game is at the moment, and the goalkeeper is always likely to come off favourably in that situation.’

Howard is not worried about the hundredth goal and, in fact, had not realised it was so close until someone told him a few days ago. However, the powerfully built striker believes it will come in the light of his recent performances, with which he has been happy.

He continued, ‘I’m confident I can continue this good run of form and I’m only happy when I am scoring goals.’

He has had a happy time at Luton since his arrival from Northampton Town, as one of Joe Kinnear’s £50K specials, as he has scored his 99 goals from only from only 212 appearances, making him the fourth highest Luton goalscorer of all time.

He will have to go some if he wants to break into the top three, however, as Brian Stein is in third place with 154, Andy Rennie second on 163, and Gordon Turner leads the way with a surely unbeatable 276!

Meanwhile, Steve is in Portugal with the squad, on a mini-break.
