This afternoon, some 2400 Hatters supporters will be inside Fratton Park, cheering on Luton Town as they commence their 2018 / 2019 League One campaign with a fixture against Portsmouth.

They’ll be descending on the historic city by rail and road, looking to cheer their idols on and hoping for a win.

As they make their way to one of the outposts of English football many may recall the events of the opening day of the 2017 / 2018 League campaign when the Hatters entertained Yeovil Town, at Kenilworth Road.

In a game that many will never forget, the Hatters went on the rampage and beat Yeovil 8-2, in scoring 8 goals the Hatters became the first side since Wolverhampton Wanderers thrashed Manchester City 8-1 in 1962, to score 8 goals in the first game of a season.

Now, we know the odds of something similar happening this afternoon are very long, but wouldn’t it be great if history did repeat itself!
